Arrive at a bygone epoch where the glasses are joined in cheer, a low hum of music sets the pace and art deco features invite you to settle in and sip.

↳ Task

Hotel bars are greatly under-appreciated in Australia. A good hotel bar can make or break a hotel property. In the case of Hilton Melbourne, they had a cosy little space at the front of the heritage listed Bourke Street property that needed a strategy and identity that harked back to well-healed travellers of yesteryear.

A glamorous past, embracing the mixology and hospitality of today.

↳ Design Solution

When you talk about ‘the golden age of travel’ two things tend to be referenced: the first is a Louis Vuitton Malle Courrier leather luggage trunk, and the second is the silver Douglas DC3 aeroplane. Seeing as Louis Vuitton was taken, we went with Douglas and embraced all the glamour that came with the swinging 1930s. With typography, colours and shapes that evoke jazz trio’s, smokey clubs, luxury travel, hefty cocktails and fabulous feather boas, The Douglas Club is an intimate bar that looks to the glamorous past whilst embracing the mixology and hospitality of today.

“A bar where well-loved cocktails done exceptionally well receive contemporary twists – from Manhattans to Bellinis – The Douglas Club draws in discerning drinkers with its relaxed air.”
