Beyond the bustle of the urban jungle lies an adventurer’s lodge, fit for both revelry and rest.

↳ Task

The task was both simple and complex. “Here is an empty space - put a cocktail bar in it”. It was worded with more nuance, but you get the idea.

Property owners, M&L Hospitality had a street facing heritage space in their Sydney property that was under-utilised. We were tasked with conceptualising a cocktail bar and working with the appropriate parties to bring the vision into reality.

The list of its requirements were long. It had to service both hotel guests and local city dwellers alike. It had to be just as comfortable for a morning coffee as it was for late night Caipiroska. It had to be unique in the Sydney bar space, whilst still reflecting the luxury offering of the Hyatt Regency… oh, and the little matter of it being a heritage building, so nothing could touch any walls. I mean, who needs structural supports anyway!?

Named after a tree found in Africa that makes animals and people tipsy.

↳ Design Solution

The final concept was a traveling botanists lodge, brimming with discoveries from travels across every ocean. We filled the space with scientific etchings of flora and fauna, nautical trinkets, lush plantings, furniture made from organic and textural materials and ample branded touchpoint to reinforce the story.

All this was named after a tree found in Africa that makes animals and people tipsy when they consumer the berries. To this day, it’s still one of our favourite names – Jackalberry.
